What actually works with no connection?
Lookups, translation memory, full-sentence translation with any offline model you've installed, Chinese variant conversion, your history. All of it. Only the AI layer needs the network.
How large are the offline models?
A single-direction model is 37–79MB. The multilingual one, which covers every direction, is about 497MB. Everything downloads on demand, so what you don't install takes up no space.
How much does the free tier give me?
The offline capability is entirely free. The free tier has a few caps: how many offline models you can install, how many memory entries and glossary terms you can keep, and how many documents you can translate each month (with offline models; after that you need VIP). AI translation has a daily character allowance. The pricing page reads all of these numbers straight from the server, so they're always current.
Is my text uploaded?
Not by the offline layers. Only sentences that reach the AI layer are sent, and those are labelled in the results, so you can see which content left the machine.
Do I need my own API key?
No. AI comes from the server, and the app stores no keys of any kind.
What if I switch computers?
Translation memory and glossaries export to a file and import back. Word lists too. There's no cloud sync, so moving machines is something you do by hand. Takes about a minute.
Which languages are supported?
Ten interface languages. Lookups cover 72 directions. Cantonese is one of them, and regional Chinese vocabulary is handled as well. Full-sentence translation depends on which models you've installed.
Why not a browser extension?
An extension depends on the network and lives inside the browser. This is a desktop app. Select text in a PDF reader, a code editor, a chat window or a spreadsheet, press the hotkey, and the translation comes back without the browser being involved and without a connection being required.
Install it before you need it.
The free tier needs no account. Dictionaries and translation memory work the minute the installer finishes, and you can download offline models in the directions you pick.
